The waiting....

I had my mammogram on 11/11. In years past, there have been some abnormal pictures, and I always had to go back and have my left breast reimaged and an ultrasound. Well, not last year. Last year they didn't see it. The problem area has always been in the inner quadrant. This year....it's on the outer. I have no idea what this means, but I must wait nearly a month before getting that second scan and ultrasound. I'm hoping my luck hasn't run out.   December 15th is when I go back. It was their first available slot. I have my annual doctor's appointment and an endocrine checkup on the 13th, which has been set for the past 3 months. I have time off available for that appointment, but not for the 15th. Not that is the most important thing about all this. Money means nothing if you aren't healthy. Well...I mean, you need money to pay for healthcare. It sucks there is no universal health care here in the United States. Rambling...I am worried. I don't know why.   A...

Slowly, but surely....

We are vaccinated, boosted as much as we can and the post COVID fatigue is still hanging around. We are doing much better though. We are back to meal planning, cooking, and household chores.  We are also recommitted to making sure our health is our top priority. I recently had an endocrinology appointment and I'm doing great. My labs were mostly good. A little too much on my thyroid medicine so we are reducing that to a third of what I'm taking.  My main issue is that vertigo is making walking a struggle at times. If I'm walking down the hallway at school and glance down another hallway and look forward, I get dizzy 🥴 NO FUN! One day at a time, right?

COVID

I have dodged getting COVID until this past week. Thank goodness I was vaccinated and boosted. I honestly feel that kept me from having compromised lungs. Don't get me wrong, it sucks. I had a fever for four days, then the congestion hit. But, while I am coughing and sneezing still, everything is productive, and it's not settling into my lungs. I also finally tested negative on Monday. The fatigue hitting hard is real! Last night, I had to call rescue for Jerry. Because we have been feeling cruddy, we weren't eating right or taking our medicines. I should say that some of us weren't....not naming names, but it was Jerry. His body went into diabetic ketoacidosis, and he is on a ventilator in the hospital's ICU. Scary shit!! I stayed away from the hospital so I could continue to rest up and get better. He is sedated and wouldn't know I was there, but that doesn't mean I don't feel incredibly guilty. I contacted the nurses, and he is improving, although it ...

Doing homework...

Sometimes, no, most times you need to be a super sleuth regarding your health. My doctor kept talking about a medication that would be out in 6 months. False... It's it now. Also she has problems ordering medication and ended up ordering a generic brand that didn't work for me. Needless to say, I sent three messages via the patient portal and waiting on replies about changing to this new medication, and fixing the prescription that she put in while I was in the office.

Too sad for a snack...

I have to get up early tomorrow for a blood work for my endocrinologist appointment next week. I have a feeling that my TSH is way off and frankly I'm getting tired of feeling like crap.  The only thing I enjoy right now is sitting and watching TV with Jerry. He's had a rough month at work but the other day I turned on Star Trek, The Original Series and we just talked and quizzed each other through the episode, praying of course so we didn't miss anything.  So. Fun!

Cancerversary...

Four years since my nephrectomy to remove my left kidney. I wish I could say my head is better since removing the cancer but I don't feel it is. Weight issues, thyroid issues, having you walk with a walking stick to keep balance...WTF.  I was so happy when I was losing all the weight, but it wasn't me. It was the cancer. How do I wrap my head around that?

Walking....

I've purchased a walking stick for myself.  I'm loving it in comparison to my Hurrycane.  It gives me the stability I am needing.  I also like that I can rest my hand on the top versus gripping a can handle.   If I get really wild I can extend it and use it as a trekking pole.  So many options. I'm finding that I can walk longer with it as well.  Which is a good thing.  With the cane, my back would get tired but with the walking stick, it isn't happening. Which is a good thing.

Rock you like a Hurrycane...

This thing has been my companion for the weekend. I have been feeling very unsteady for awhile and decided it was time to break out the Hurrycane. I hate it and love it at the same time. It definitely gives me some stability while walking though.  I don't know what's going on. If it's a vitamin deficiency, or my Hashimotos flaring? I go for an appointment in June for my 6 month check up.  It seems like ever since my nephrectomy my health is not where it should be. It will be 4 years on May 31st...*sigh* I just want to feel better.

Happy Easter

Easter weekend brain dump...

Four-day weekend.  Just what I needed.  Work is tough this year.  I'm the only staff interpreter on the campus; we have a revolving door of agency interpreters covering the other two classes.  One of the teachers did give me a great compliment last week, saying that I was a great interpreter and that they loved the fact that I connected to the school on a team basis. But, of course, I do...that's what my job is.  I'm an educational interpreter, so being part of the education team is key.  I get why they said that, though.  The agency interpreters don't have the loyalty that a staff interpreter would.       I am a lapsed Catholic. However, I now see myself as a spiritual being. So why am I mentioning this? Because of Easter?  Yes.  I do believe in the story of Jesus.  But I don't discount other religious figures.  I mean, who am I to judge.  So Easter is a time of renewal, a time of...

so yeah....

Last year's grateful post each day was hard to maintain. I tried. I am grateful for each and every day I'm in alive. I know I need to treat my body better though. I'm not going to make promises I won't keep. This year is about being okay with not being okay.

Day 309-327

Holy moly, I'm not doing well with this post per day.   I'm off for the rest of the week for Thanksgiving Break.  This time of year is always a little bitter-sweet as I miss my family, both the dead and the living who have abandoned what it means to be family. Jerry and I will cook for us and that's always a great time.  We enjoy cooking together and we've gotten quite good at it, in my opinion.  The menu is: Turkey, dressing, roasted potatoes, carrots, and beans, hopefully, cranberry from Publix if I put in the order and actually get it, and a mini Klondike bar for dessert.   My mouth is drooling as I type this.  So what am I grateful for....Breaks from school, Jerry, Nutmeg, the means to have a nice dinner, we are so fortunate and I know that not everyone is...sometimes I feel guilty...argh...

Day 308

Yesterday was rough. Feeling so much better. Today I'm going to the district building for contract negotiations. I haven't been the best building two for the union. My heart isn't in it. I guess every little bit helps. I'm grateful for feeling better. I was a little scared. I never felt that way before. Jittery, confused, emotional... Not fun. Drink your water!

Day 298-307

Got my Pixelmas Pixel 6 Pro phone today. It's huge. That's what she said.  I hope a Jerry gets his tomorrow. I had to take the day off as I'm having problems staying hydrated.

Day 275

I'm a little stiff from last night's fall but over all doing great. I'm thankful that I had the smarts to "roll" in to the fall. Getting old is a doozie! I want to keep getting older though even at times when I say I just want to sleep forever. FOMO (Fear of missing out) plays a big part. I want to do more. Especially with Jerry. 🥰

Day 272-274

I fell earlier today. Came right out of my shoes and the scariest part is I don't know how it happened. I bonked my knees but other than being shaken up I seem to be okay.   Yesterday was great, we saw Hamilton  again.  I'm grateful for shows that make me laugh, cry, and everything in between. I'm also grateful that I didn't think my head when I fell.

Day 263-271

So yeah...I seen to be in a work rut. Life at home is the best, but I'm not enjoying work. The student I'm assigned has an attendance issue so when they aren't here, I have to cover other schedules. I don't care for the classes or the clientele. That's awful to say. But it's the truth. Life is too short to mince words.  Anyway... grateful for 3:35 PM M-F. Time to head home.

Day 243-262

I'm having a hard time right now. I was out for 10 days with an infection in my leg followed by a reaction to Bactrim. Work is bumming me out. I'm alive and Jerry makes me laugh so I'm grateful for him.

Day 230-242

I'm barely hanging on at work. With the vacancies, schedules, and COVID I just want to quit. I'm grateful that I'm alive and that's about as good as it's going to get for now.

Day 227

I woke up at 5:30 with the worst cramp in my inner thigh. I thought I was going to have to wake up Jerry, but after about 30 minutes and 24 oz of water I was able to put weight on my leg. It's still sore...so I'm grateful that I am ambulatory.

Day 218 - 226

School has started. COVID it's still a thing. It looks like I might be the only district interpreter at my school after Wednesday. I'm sorry I dropped the ball on my grateful each day posts. I'm working on my work/life balance right now. Last night I went to bed at 6pm and slept until 9:30 this morning. I'm very grateful for my life.. Even though it is a little stressful.

Day 212 & 213

212: Full day of peopling and mask wearing. It was exhausting. I'm grateful that I made it the full day.  213: I slept 12 hours last night. I'm grateful that I had a good night's sleep.

Day 211

I did the laundry all by myself..well...Jerry carried it to the laundry room. I'm grateful that I was able to "flip" the laundry and fold and put it away by myself! 🧺

Day 202, 203, 204, and 205

202: Jerry went to work today nso I had the while house to myself. I missed his "noise." I'm grateful for the everyday sounds of living with Jerry. 203: Random contractor calls can throw a link into my routine but thankfully I rolled with it. I'm grateful that some days I'm easy going.  204: I'm thankful that I dona good job of keeping up with my health appointments. Today was an Ultrasound of my kidney and "Martha hole" to make sure things are going well.  205: I'm grateful for online shopping and delivery. Keeps me safe and helps my knee heal.

Day 201

Today I'm grateful for pizza delivery. I took a nap and Jerry let me sleep longer than I thought I would do instead of walking me up to cook he ordered pizza. I'm spoiled. 😍

Day 200

Today, I won. I had to call CVS nexuses I am about to run out of one of my medicines. When I picked it up last month I didn't notice they charged me for 3 months but only handed me one month. After several times of me saying,".. But I paid for 3 months but only got one month." The pharmacist said they would check to see how many boxes were scanned and handed to me and call me back. About 20 minutes later they called and said that I was right and they owed me 2 months off medicine. I'm grateful for technology that tracks exactly what was released all I didn't have to pay out of pocket for medicine.

Day 196, 197, 198, & 199

Last week we had the plumbing redone in our house. The water pressure is amazing now. We also got the walkway and some landscaping done at the front of the house. I'm grateful for the means we have to do these projects. Did I mention the water pressure? Oh yeah...and the plumber cleaned the rain shower head. SO GOOD! 💧🌧️

Day 195

I'm grateful for running water and the ability to use our bathrooms again in the house.  After 9 hours of plumbing work, it was nice to use the facilities in our own home.  Jerry and I went to Firehouse to relieve ourselves at lunch and I popped into the restroom while getting another mammogram picture done of my left breast.  Good news there is nothing has changed since last year so only the annual visit next year!

Day 190, 191, 192, 193 & 194

Normally, I would break down each day but it's all a blur. Tropical storms, delays in plumbing work, and grief has come to pay me a visit. I blame the "Jeannie shows" I watch... why do people have to die from pancreatitic cancer. FUCK!! Anyway....this is about being grateful so that is my focus. I am grateful for every day I have! Cancer is in remission. I'm obese but I'm alive. I know I need to gety weight down. My TSH is up again..I'm so tired of not feeling good...so tired but I want to be healthy. Grateful for life, no matter how messy.

Day 188 & 189

188: Tropical Storm Elsa hits....she brought some gloom skies but we were fortunate again. I'm grateful that our little bungalow was safe from the storm. 189: Eye appointment day...wheee! Of course my eyes are dilated and anything bright hurts to look at. I am grateful that I am able to take care of my eyes. I have some occular pressure issues and I make sure to keep my appointments. The dilating sucks though. Heh!

Day 187

I've had to "people" two times today. Once to get some lab work and the second to pick up some things via Publix curbside pickup and at CVS. At the lab, misty people were masked but they still don't know how to wear it properly. At Publix of course the curbside attendant was fully masked which I appreciate even though we were never within six feet of each other. I'm really ready for COVID to be over. So what am I grateful for today, home. I'm grateful for home. My safe little sanctuary.

Day 186

Today I'm grateful for fresh sheets! Usually we have maids service on Mondays and they change the bed. The old me would be all "they'll get it next week" but instead I asked Jerry to help and we made the bed. I know I'm incredibly spoiled with maid service... Don't come at me.

Day 182, 183, 184 & 185

Talk about dropping the ball... 182: Grateful for pajama days. 183: Fridays...very rainy so I made philly cheese steaks. YUM!! I'm grateful for our fa delivered meats. Oh..and the Lawyer's Seasoned Salt kicked it up a notch! 184: Grateful for a partner that helps make decisions. We did laundry in a Saturday so we didn't have to do it on the holiday.  185: I'm grateful for holiday traditions. We spent the afternoon watching 1776 to celebrate Independence Day.  🇺🇲

Day 181

Today I'm grateful for Jerry. He takes care of me and makes me laugh. I hope he knows how much I love him. I try to make life easier him. I need to take care of myself so I can take care of him.

Day 179

I made a lovely zucchini, yellow squash, tomato, pasta salad. I'm grateful for fresh veggies and trying new recipes.

Day 178

I'm grateful that I only have to take care of me. I know that sounds super selfish. I struggle with getting me ready for the world, I can't imagine having little ones that also need assistance. Maybe it is wrong, but it's how I'm feeling today. ⁰

Day 176 & 177

176: Holy house upgrades! Got a new sink and ordered a water softener system that will be installed in two weeks. I'm grateful that we are finally able to have workers in the house to fix things we rigged to work for the past year.  177: Today we had a chopping fest to prepare all the veggies for the week. I'm grateful that we have the means to get fresh farm veggies delivered to our house each week.

Day 175

Woo hoo! Spent the morning on the phone ordering a new sink, faucet, and some plumbing work. I'm grateful that we can upgrade and fix things without stressing to much.

Day 173

Had a lovely night away at Jekyll Island. I'm grateful for the sound of the surf rejuvenating my soul.

Day 171

It's Father's day today. I miss mine. Playing "guys", admitting I took the car or before I had my licence and him calling me Barney Oldfield, sailing, trimming the disco tree, playing video games, the Timex Sinclair, the Mac and "Welcome to Mario" tong game that always popped up even when he didn't start it, going to his school to hang out at football games, watching him lead the band in parades, going to the symphony to hear him play the oboe, sailing, the great Christmas light decoration war at the cottage, watching him help build a house, talking about gadgets, Xena Warrior Princess, the way he always purposefully said the wrong names of tv shows (ex. Slugged by an Angel), Seawart, Thanksgiving dressing.... So many memories. I'm grateful that you were my dad! ♥️

Day 164, 165 & 166

164: I'm exhausted and sore from that little outing. I'm grateful that I'm alive and honestly that is enough some days. 165: OMG home made stew is so yummy. I even added some peas. Lasuer of course. I'm grateful that we are able to cook delicious meals full of food nutrients.  166: I didn't get any sleep last night. Nutmeg kept nagging me to go back to bed when I finally got up after hours of tossing and turning. My throat is raw from post nasal drip. So what am I grateful for on this sleepy, grumpy morning? That it is summer break and I can nap later if I need to although I'm going to try to stay awake so I sleep well tonight.

Day 163

Holy outta shape, Batman! Today we headed to Publix Liquor and then the grocery. We didn't need to shop, the point was to get me walking. Walking with a biggy sounds like a good way to ease into being mobile. Did kinda okay at the liquor store but had to sit for a moment before headwind into the grocery store. We picked up a few things, coffee creamer was a must get item. I really thought I would be able to walk the whole store. NOPE! Jerry says I shouldn't best myself up about my lack of stamina bit to work on it. So today I'm grateful that I was able to take a small step to better health.

Day 160, 161, & 162

160: Jerry was at work today so I had the house to myself. I got Pad Thai from Hawkers. It's hard for him to eat there with the carb count. Honestly, I should be worried about that too. I'm grateful for delivery service to bring me delicious lunch.  161: I'm grateful for sleeping in. I woke up at 12:30 PM. 🛌 162: Friday.... I'm grateful for summer breaks and losing track of days of the week. Although Jerry is still working so there is some sort of schedule.

Day 159

I'm grateful for pajama days all alone at home. Doing what I want. Junk food and all. My tummy will pay later but for now...it's happy and full.

Day 158

Today I'm grateful for tops that aren't black. I don't have many non work clothes so I bought myself a bright blue top and wore the heck out of it today!!

Day 157

I'm sad. Or something....just kind of meh. I didn't do anything today. Thank goodness for goofy series. I'm rewatching Younger on HULU. I'm grateful for streaming services.

Day 154, 155, & 156

154: Went to school to sign my paperwork, hand in my key, etc. Got lots of hugs, which are great! I'm grateful for hugs!  155: Last day of school. I'm grateful that we were able to use it guest room as a classroom for the year. It made things easier for both Jerry and me.  156: I'm grateful for lazy mornings. I've been awake for about an hour but am still in bed playing on my phone. Yay!

Day 152 & 153

152:  Tuesday, and not Monday.  Always so weird after a holiday.  I'm grateful for the last Tuesday of the school year.  153: It's only Wednesday.  Could this week be any slower? Tonight is Spaghetti night....some normalcy that I'm grateful for this week.

Three years....

Three years ago today, my left kidney was removed because I had a cancerous tumor inside. I didn't the next week in the hospital recovering and told myself I was going to keep being healthy.  That hasn't happened. Yes, I'm cancer free per my last scan in 2020. But...I'm huge. Morbidly obese. The most I've ever weighed and I feel it. Every day...it's a struggle to move, to walk to stand. I hate it!! I put myself back on LoseIt to keep track of my calories because I know pandemic eating was a little crazy. Despite tracking every bite and I don't think I miss putting things down I'm not losing. My TSH was off but it's been eight weeks since we upped my dosage and I should be feeling better...but I'm not.  I know I need to move around more. But I'm afraid of falling, failing ..of it all.  I'm sad....

Day 150 &151

150: Feeling like a truck hit me. I'm so out of shape. Grateful to be alive. 151: Theee years since my kidney was removed due to cancer. Feeling super grateful that my cancer was removed and I'm alive. I need to fix this body.

Day 149

Last night we went to Alhambra Dinner Theatre and saw The Music Man.   The food was good, the show was good.  We were unmasked because we are vaccinated. I was anxious...very... Lots of going up and downstairs while we were there and today I'm sore, tired, and just a little out of sorts. I'm grateful that we went though.  It was good to get out of the house and do something normal.  I need to get some stamina back...I'm too sloth-like :(

Day 147 & 148

147: Grateful to have the whole house to myself for a couple of hours.  Although I was still working.  Meh... 148: I'm kinda in a pissed-off mood.  I am feeling stressed about not letting the veggies go bad before we cook them.   I know that I need to cook more.  Did  I mention I hate being a housewife?  I need to get over this princess attitude and just be a fucking adult!  UGH!! So what am I grateful for today?  Umm....I guess that testing is over and we have a 3 day weekend.   And after that, I only have 4 more work days until Summer Vacation!!!!!

Day 146

I woke up at 3am this morning.  I tried to go back to sleep, but the brain zoomies were too strong.  I finally put on my soap (Y&R) and snoozed until around 7.  It's going to be rough later, but right now, I'm feeling okay.  So what am I grateful for on this sleep-deprived day?  I'm grateful that I am working from home. Yes....again.  This has come up many times in my year of gratefulness, but it really is a blessing to not have to get in a car and deal with traffic and people.  Don't get me wrong, I miss my co-workers, and it's quite lonely on some days.  Only six more days, and then it's Summer Vacation!

Day 145

Today I'm grateful for my Pair Eyewear glasses. I got 8 new toppers and they are fun!!

Day 143 & 144

143: Grateful for building legos with my hubby.  Fun stuff.  And we only got frustrated once in the whole build. 144: Ugh..I thought I was caught up, but here I go posting 2 days in one post.  Today I'm grateful for having the means to take care of the house regularly.  Maid service is a luxury that we have, and I'm super grateful every week that they come.

Day 140, 141, & 142

140: I know it's redundant but I'm grateful to work in a job that has 2 months off.  141: Two weeks from today.. Summer vay-cay. I'm grateful for some yummy Bono's BBQ takeout.  142: if you haven't watched the series Kim's Convenience  you need to check it out. So funny and helps the blues. I'm grateful for the laughs.

Day 138 & 139

138: I'm grateful for yummy food that I cooked. I took Coconut Aminos, salt, pepper, garlic powder and basted it on chicken leg quarters ( or as I call them. Stupid chicken) and baked it's SOOO yummy with fresh roasted green beans.  139: Today I I told a teacher that I was done being as helpful as I was with the students because it's not my job. I'm an interpreter. I really feel like I have let the student down by being too much for them. So today I'm grateful for the lesson.

Day 137

I'm not happy right now. I'm angry, and I'm not sure why. I just want to tell at people. But I don't....I know better. I'm grateful that I'm in control. I'm thankful I haven't said or done anything that I would regret. I hope tomorrow is better.

Day 134, 135, & 136

134: I'm grateful for naps at 3:35 PM  135: I'm grateful for more sleep, apparently I'm super tired.  136: Counting this one, there are only 3 Sundays left in the school year, super grateful for that!

Day 133

Google photos started a new feature a few months back where they show you pictures from your past.  Four years ago today, I had a "Porch Pop-up" for my Lularoe business. I was cute and thinner, and I thought happy.  But I think it was that day that I figured out that it wasn't going to be for me.  I think I had a few sales, but nothing, like I thought, should have been happening.  Needless to say, I stuck it out for a few more months, trying to deny the fact that it wasn't fun and it was a whole lot of work. It wasn't until November of that year that I stopped selling. What I didn't know at the time was that the reason I was losing so much weight and loving my new body in these, what I thought were cute outfits, was that I had cancer.  Cancer was the reason for my weight loss.  So what am I thankful/grateful for on reflecting on this memory?  That I  took a chance.  I stepped out of my comfort zone to try something.  I ...

Day 128, 129 & 130

128: Grateful for vaccines and my confidence level. Went into two stores! 129: Grateful for Jerry. 130: Grateful for delivery services. Groceries are done. Amazon has enough food for Nutmeg for a couple of months.  (Oops 😳)

Day 127

I'm grateful I have Jerry to talk to about "stuff".   It seems like everyone else has put me on the backburner.  Okay..maybe not but it's how I feel.

Day 124, 125, & 126 *sigh*

124: I'm grateful for yummy green beans from our local farms.  125: I'm grateful for "permission" to finish a series without Jerry. The Expanse season 5 was good! 126: Grateful for my job and the ability to do some personal development. I learned how to sign Immune system, pathogens...also watched Atomic Hands on how the COVID vaccines work.

Day 123

I'm grateful for having fun at work. The cadets had an assignment to create a god or goddess so I joined the fun and did the assignment as well. Was a nice little distraction..

Day 122

Today was an odd day. Jerry has a low blood sugar incident. Like no other one. After he was back up to normal he was exhausted and napped most of the day. He did rude with me to CVS and Jersey Mike's to pick up RXs and lunch. I'm proud of myself, I went into the restaurant all alone to pick up our order. Not one but of anxiety. Okay, maybe after I did it... But still, I did it. I need to keep some things on hand for those emergency low sugar episodes, I'm grateful for my "take over, get him better" more. I haven't seen that side of me in awhile. I grateful he is okay now too.

Day 120 & 121

120: I napped for 3 hours after work. Can you even call that a nap or is it just sleeping? I'm grateful that I can do that.  121: I'm grateful for a partner who helps me do take, even when I don't want to do them. Today we roasted corn, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Veggies prep palooza!

Day 119

I'm tired. It's Friday Eve, and NFL Draft night. Jerry is excited about watching the draft. I'm excited about the wings he is cooking me. 😂 Today, I'm grateful for knowing that after tomorrow it will be the weekend. I don't want to be a slug but I want to be a slug. Sleep..I love sleep.

Day 117 & 118

117: Less than 30 days left in the school year, and I'm looking forward to having a couple of months off.  I'm sure in August we will be back in the buildings full time.  I'm not looking forward to that, but I know what I need to do to keep myself safe.  So, what am I grateful for on day 117?  I'm grateful for Vegging out with Jerry watching some Below Deck Sailing Edition.  It's a guilty pleasure, and once again, it proves to be entertaining for us. 118: It's spaghetti night.  A constant in our routines.  It gives me joy to eat some yummy spaghetti that we prepare together.  It also is a 'no brainer" for weekly meal planning, which I love. So today, I'm grateful for spaghetti night!

Day 115 & 116

115:  We made roasted carrots, and they were amazing!  I'm grateful for veggies.  I need more of them in my diet.  I know that.  I need to get past this lazy person crap and just cook them all up and eat them. 116:  I'm grateful for cat sighs.  Nutmeg came into the "classroom" today and got up on the bed.  Nestled up on a pillow and started settling in for a nap.  She did the cutest *sigh* before she finally settled in and it was adorable.

Day 114

Why do I feel responsible when the UberEats people or the restaurant people don't have the order right? What kind of f***** up self-esteem crap is that anyway.... This blog post is supposed to be about being grateful which is supposed to help me be in the moment. Be present. Be now. So what can I possibly be grateful for? In this moment, I guess that there are always reminders that everything in life goes doesn't go smoothly and you have to learn how to cope. So I'm grateful for the lesson.

Day 113

I'm grateful for my hairdresser, Mavity.  I can walk in and say "I hate my hair!" She doesn't get offended and I leave with something that is cute and less dowdy.

Day 111 & 112

111: Not a good day.  Work is wearing on me.  I'm feeling confined even though I really don't want to go anywhere.  I'm feeling worn out as well.  So what do I have to be grateful for.  I am grateful for having these feelings.  It's okay not to be okay.  It's the sad days that balance out the joy that comes from most days.   112:  I'm still feeling "meh."  A co-worker's mother passed away yesterday.  She had been battling Congestive Heart Failure for a while now.  I feel for my co-worker.  Losing a parent is hard.  That Mother/Daughter relationship is a special bond (well, for me it was) and not having mom around can be rough.  I'm grateful to have gone through that experience though.  Jerry and I lost all our parents within 18 months.  One after another.  I don't know how we did it, but we did.  We have use some dark humor to ease some of the pain.  Lots of "your momma" jokes ...

Day 109 & 110

109: I'm grateful for maid service.  I know I have said that before but I really am not a fan of cleaning and the ability to have someone else do it is a nice treat.  And...we are helping by employing them. Right? 110:  I woke up to breakfast made by my cutie pie husband.  I'm grateful for a morning person husband.  I'm so not a morning person so doing anything in the morning is a chore. I was treated with his recipe of roasted breakfast potatoes, eggs over easy, and a couple of sausage links. YUM!

Day 106, 107 & 108

106: I'm grateful for Friday nights and knowing I don't have to go to work for 2 days.  107: I'm grateful for restaurants that have gluten free bread for yummy sandwiches. I got a Cuban Sandwich from Larry's Giant Dubs and it was delish! 108: I'm super grateful that I have the sleeping superpower and didn't get out of bed until 11am. It's rainy and people are gloomy in the house, but I'm having a good day. Watched a lot of One Tree Hill.

Day 103, 104, and 105

Ugh. 103: I'm grateful for s "Souper" simple taco soup! So yummy and easy to make.  104: I'm grateful for testing days when I'm feeling meh and don't have to be on camera for 6 hours a day. ( Should be 7 but some teachers don't do meeting for their class. ) 105: I never thought I would say this but I'm grateful for cauliflower pizza crust. We got pizza from Al's pizza and it was so  good. Well be ordering from them again.

Day 102

I'm grateful for a supportive partner. Tonight the chicken was dry, but not one complaint. Even when I complained, he still said, "It's good." it wasn't good, it was dry....very dry. We had roasted potatoes, carrots and Brussel sprouts to go along with my dry chicken which made up for a lot.

Day 101

I'm grateful for fresh veggies. I roasted some green beans for lunch today and they were so yummy! Who ever would have thought I'd be roasting veggies for lunch?!?

Day 100

I'm grateful for science! Today we are two weeks since our second dose of the Pfizer. Fully activated!! Woo hoo 🕺💃🎉 We went out and did some errands. UPS to drop off Nespresso pods to be recycled,  Goodwill to drop off to huge bags full of clothes, and then just drove around about with the moon roof open for some vitamin d. We even went inside  Jersey Mike's to order our lunch to go. It was a good day.

Day 96 & 97

96: Horrible headache when going to make dinner.  The chopped sweet potato bag wasn't sealed and potato bits when flying everywhere.  What was left smelled off.  Jerry jumped in to help as I was having a horrible headache and took over the veggies for dinner.  We have a lovely pork tenderloin with his potato and carrot roasted yumminess.  I'm grateful that he always has my back. 97:  We are testing this week at school.  So for the virtual students and me it's a lot of independent work and no live meetings.  I'm happy I'm home though.  I am still not feeling 100%.  I don't know if it's a sinus, or ear infection, or just allergies.  Either way, I'm grateful for sitting in my little faux classroom today.

Day 94 & 95

94: I'm grateful for sleeping in. I woke up at 10:30, and it was great!  I love the weekends that I actually do that. 95: It's Monday, and honestly, I'm feeling meh.  But, it's also maid day.  I'm grateful that we have maid service, even if it isn't always convenient for them to be here.

Day 93

I woke up to breakfast cooked by my darling husband. Roasted potatoes, eggs with spinach and cheese, and kielbasa sausage...I'm so lucky. Today I'm grateful for those little things (not so little really) that he does out of love.

Day 92

I napped today. I was super sleepy around 2pm so I put on Star Wars: A New Hope and was asleep before Luke made his appearance. I'm grateful for afternoon naps!

Day 89, 90, & 91

89: Lucked out of cooking and got some fajita nachos. I'm grateful for food delivery services. 90: We were out of ground beef so i used Instacart and got some groceries. I don't miss shopping. Again, grateful for shopping/delivery services. 91: Grateful for a doctor that sometimes actually listens to me. My TSH was 13.19 so we are going to try a Tirosint Solution @ 200 mcg.

Day 88

Sweet potatoes!! That's what I'm grateful for today. They are yummy and they don't make my tummy mad.

Day 86

I'm grateful for science! We got our 2nd dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine today. In two weeks we will be activated and can get a little bit of relief. We will still continue to mask for both our health and the health of our friends and neighbors.

Day 83, 84, & 85

Holy cow, I'm slippin'! Day 83  I'm grateful for spaghetti night.  I didn't feel like cooking but most Wednesdays we cook spaghetti.  It's quick and easy. Don't forget that it is so delicious!  Yum, spaghetti!! Day 84 I'm grateful for technology.  We ordered these replacement wands for our blinds that make them automated.  It's so cool.  And Jerry crawled behind the TV and installed one on the blinds there.  That blind hasn't been open in decades.  I'm loving the natural light in the house and I can get it with one push of a button. Day 85 I love Fridays!  I'm grateful for drinking water because tomorrow I get my 2nd COVID-19 Vaccine shot.  I'm a little nervous about the side effects but I've heard that super hydrating helps so I'm going to start on my water increase intake later today.

Day 82

It's Tuesday.  I need to change my outlook on Tuesdays.  I tend to be "meh" on Tuesdays. So what could I be grateful for this Tuesday?  The fact that I work from home and didn't have to commute far.  I love it.  While I miss the students and my co-workers. I love that I can do things right up until 8:04, walk to the "classroom" and power up the computer, and be set for the day by 8:05.

Day 80 & 81

So I seem to be skipping days again.  You'd think this would be a habit by now. Day 80 I love the weekends and Jerry and I have been having a blast lately on the weekend.  No, we aren't going out. No, we aren't visiting with people.  We are just having fun together and laughing a lot.  So for day 80, I'm grateful for the ability to see the humor in everything.   Day 81 I'm very fortunate that we have the means to get our house cleaned once a week.  It started when I had my kidney removed and we love it. We are both a little weak in the cleaning department. Ok..I am.  Jerry rocks it out.  Anyway, I'm grateful for our once-a-week cleanings.

Day 79

I had lab work today. I arrived and as I was waiting I noticed everyone had papers. Of course they did because you need lab orders! Miffed, I drove home and tried to book another appointment. None!! I had decided that I was going to go Monday and wait for a time slot. I them turned to Jerry and asked his advice. He said he'd go back since I was already fasting. Ugh....I went back and it was empty!!! I was in and out in 30 minutes. So today, I'm grateful for a loving partner who knows me and I'm also grateful for the luck I had today getting my land work done quickly.

Day 77 &78

Day 77 My toes is better.  I wore shoes to give it support vs slipper.  That helped a lot.  Today I'm grateful for quick and easy dinners.  We had a variation of the TikTok pasta.  Used 2 qt of cherry tomatoes, Boursin Garlic cheese, and penne pasta.  Was yummy and super easy to make.  Also means I didn't have to stand on my toe too long. Day 78 FRIYAY!!  I'm working for the weekends!  Thankfully, Monday is a teacher planning day which means I don't have to log into work.  NICE!  So grateful.....yeah..I am truly blessed and I'm aware but today I'm focused my gratefulness on my partner.  He makes me laugh.  We spent the morning laughing together over breakfast.  Sure..we have our moments of "Ugh" but don't we all?  We have less of those than we do of just giggling at things. <3

Day 76

My toe hurts... My knee hurts from favoring my toe. My tummy hurts. Wah! Wah! Wah! So what am I grateful for today. A student told me they loved me today. I love my job and they depend on me too much and honestly I cross that line more often than I should but they don't get the support they need from thier teachers... So.....ugh...ethics. it's not like I'm giving answers away, just guiding them on how to write a sentence. Middle school and they struggle. Online school can be rough. Educational interpreting is so...fuzzy... In the "this is where the line is drawn" that when I get an "I love you", I'm cherishing it!

Day 75 *my birthday*

I'm grateful to have traveled another year around the sun.  I know that life is gift and is not always promised and birthdays are a great reminder!!

Day 68-74

Umm...wow.  Spring break hit and I forgot about everything. Which was nice.  Apparently, I needed to not think about things.  Was a good break, at home of course.  We got our 1st dose of the Pzier Vaccine on Saturday the 6th.  No real side effects.  Yes, my arm was sore for about 3 days.  The rest of the week was spent watching TV, being silly with Jerry, and playing with Nutmeg.  A win in my book.   I'm grateful that I have a job that gives me a full week off to decompress.  We also have a mini break coming up for Easter.  Yay!!

Day 67

You know what is great? Not worrying about things. We took my car in to the shop on Saturday because all kinds of warning lights were coming up. They days they couldn't get to it until Monday. I'm on sitting break so when I got the text message my car was ready, for a moment I had forgotten it was getting worked on. No stress for this girly on vay-cay. So I'm grateful for those moments of bliss.

Day 65 & 66

Day 65 WOW!! What a day.  I'm grateful for science and a President who gets it.  We got our COVID vaccine 1st shots today.   Day 66 I'm grateful for gaming.  It's a great escape and today I finished Star Wars Jedi the Fallen Order.  Fun!!

Day 64

What a beautiful morning! I got up and ready and drove to the school to do some paperwork that had to be signed "in person." I turned on 80s on 8 on my Sirius XM radio and sang along as I drove my warning light laden car. Fun!  So today I'm grateful to be alive and fairly healthy. Health...oof...I'm far from healthy but today I'm going to say "healthy for me". Ya know...screw it. I'm freaking happy to be alive today!!!

Day 63

Today I'm grateful that I have the patience to deal with crises.  Okay, not all the time.  But today I didn't panic.  I got in my car and a whole lot of warning lights came on which tells me that the electrical system is buggy.  I drove anyway.  I'll be fine..right?  *shrug*  I decided that it was probably just a glitch and I needed to do some errands. I have to do another one tomorrow but the car is going back into the shop Saturday.  I was just there a month ago. *sigh*   So grateful for car troubles....no...again...grateful for staying calm among the chaos that seems to be my life with my car lately.

Day 61 & 62

Day 61 Grateful for video games. They are fun, and challenge my eye hand motor skills. Also I'm currently playing Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order so.... Star Wars!! Day 62 I was home alone today. I don't care for the quiet. I'm better than I used to be. So...yay for personal growth. So what am thankful for? People coming home! And by people, I mean Jerry!

Day 59 & 60

Hmm...I thought I was consistently posting and then I miss a day. So for day 59...I'm grateful for washing machines. I can't even imagine doing laundry by hand.  So for day 60, I'm grateful for dryers. Not only are they awesome for drying wet clothes, the are wonderful at heading up shirts and making them cozy.

Day 58

Saturday has become my favorite day of the week. Yes, I'm home all the time but on Saturday I can sleep in and do what I want. Work has been becoming a bit much. Sitting with a camera on constantly takes a toll. Anyway...back to Saturdays. A full day of just being me. Hanging out with Jerry and Nutmeg. It's the best! So that's my official grateful thing for today. ☺️

Day 57

I'm not feeling happy today. I just want to sleep. So today I'm grateful that my partner supports my decision to head to bed at 7pm. I sad a nap but it will probably be all night.

Day 55

Hmmm....grateful...grateful...so much to be grateful for but specifically today?  My life. I'm not talking about the heart beating, blood rushing through vessels, breathing kind of life, I'm talking about my past experiences. I have had so many. Today someone on TikTok posted a "Tell me you were in marching band, with out telling me you were in marching band..." Of course I did a duet. It got me thinking about all the wonderful people and experiences that I had just because I was in Marching band. In high school we travelled to Disney World. In college...well....SO many experiences. I wouldn't trade those memories and experiences at all. Even the hard/rough/sad ones.  So yeah, I'm grateful for marching band and all it's done in shaping the person that I am.

Day 52, 53, & 54

Day 52: I'm grateful that I can sleep in until noon. No judgement from Jerry, just peaceful sleep. Day 53: I'm grateful for yummy Everything Bagel seasoning. A new discovery for me and so young on eggs, chicken...Can't wait to try it other places. Day 54: I'm grateful I'm still working from home. I'm feeling anxious about COVID right now. More people I know are getting sick. I was feeling pretty lucky that it was away from my bubbles of people. Also, in having insomnia as I post at 3am... So getting up at the last minute to work is a bonus!!

Day 51

This morning was lazy and wonderful. Jerry went and got a haircut, double masked of course. Then he wanted to try a reverse omelette that he has seen on TikTok. So after he made his and having a taste, I made my own. I mentioned the veggies from local farms, I forgot to say we also get our eggs. Getting eggs delivered each week has been the best. The pandemic has been hard and Local Fare Jax has been a blessing. I'm grateful for the fresh goodies we get each week.

Day 50

Today I'm grateful for potato salad. Really?? Potato salad?  Yes. Jerry makes some amazing potato salad and we have been fortunate to find a local farm co-op that delivers to our porch. So the produce is fresh and yummy! jerry uses red potatoes in his recipe and we have plenty right now. Olso while really I'm grateful for our farm to porch service, without them...I couldn't have Jerry's super yummy potato salad.

Day 47, 48, & 49

Way to drop the ball there Jeanne! Day 47 I dont even remember what was going on. I guess that is kind of a blessing, it means nothing bad happened. Right? Day 48 Jerry's birthday!! He is two years older than me. Not really but the math works out until March. I'm grateful to be able to laugh and kid around with such a funny husband. He had a rough day with work but over all he said it was a good day.  Day 49 Weird day at work. A few of my meetings for virtual classes were cancelled so it was a lot of waiting around for the student to contact me or wait for the next class. I am doing an online course though the district and I was able to knock out a few of the "courses". So I'm grateful for the time to develop my professional skills.  Alright..whew...caught up. Maybe I need to tie a sting around my finger to remind me to post. 😏

Day 45 & 46

Day 45  Happy Valentine's day! Today I'm thankful nfor a husband who is also my best friend and partner. I can't imagine a day without him. Day 46 Happy President's day. Our district was closed today so I go to rest and relax. Did some gaming. Had a lunch that takes longer than a work day lunch period. It was nice. I'm grateful for holidays.

Day 44

We are really trying to stay safe and COVID-19 free. We only go out for doctor appointments, and work. Work is rare though as we both work from home. Jerry has to go in from time to time and I usually have to go in to sign my time sheets. So today I'm thankful for grocery delivery. We use both Instacart and Shipt. Depends on the store.

Day 42 & 43

Day 42 I'm grateful for food delivery services. I didn't feel like cooking so, we had La Nopalera for dinner and it was yummy. Day 43 I ordered another bird feeder to add to our collection. We are really enjoying watching the birds and squirrels compete for peanuts. I didn't know Bluejays liked peanuts. So I'm thankful we found this new little hobby to keep us entertained.

Day 41

Today I'm grateful.for....ya know...this is tough today. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of good I'm my life but today I feel off. ... And I feel that it's okay to not be okay from time to time.  it's spaghetti night.... So I'm thankful for yummy pasta. There....see.... Did it!

Day 40

Today I'm grateful for quick and tasty recipes. it's Taco Tuesday so I made taco soup.with ground pork, diced onions,  a can of fire roasted tomatoes, a can of corn, a can of black beans,  and a packet of gluten free taco seasoning. After browning the meat, you add everything and heat. I also added a can full of water.

Day 39

I got new dining chairs today. They are half way unpacked because we are both working and don't have the time right now. So today I'm grateful for new chairs. Our current ones are tattered and torn. I'm hoping to keep Nutmeg 🐈 from scratching on them.

Day 38

Today is Superbowl Sunday. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Last year was super weird so while I'm sure we will watch some it, I don't have any high expectations.  So....what am I grateful for today. Our Sunday routine. Today is the day we usually do laundry and any other chores around the house. Is it mundane, sure. It's also very comforting to know what the plan for the day is. So.... Laundry day, yay!! 🎉

Day 37

Lazy Saturdays with Jerry are my favorite. He cracks me up!  Today, I'm grateful for a marriage that is a partnership. I'm super lucky as he takes really good care of me. He is by far the caretaker in this couple. Yes, I take care of things but he does those little things. I have a problem with my fingers cracking lately so he makes sure that things are "paper cut free". Seriously, I can get a cut from folding laundry.   Did I mention, he is super funny too!?!

Day 36

Today I found out that my uncle died of COVID. He had dementia and I know that was really hard on him but apparently he got covid in January and declined after that. I'm super sad. I am grateful though that my aunt was able to tell me through Facebook Messenger. I know a lot of people are like.... Why would you be grateful for getting a message through Facebook about your uncle dying? She didn't have my phone number so this was the only way she could let me know so.... Today I'm grateful for Facebook Messenger.

Day 34 & 35

Day 34 I'm thankful for naps. Those after work, I can't keep my eyes open naps that let you function. Day 35 I'm grateful to have a job that gives me sick time to use when I have doctor appointments. Even though I hate having my eyes dialated I enjoyed having the day off to let my eyes rest.

Day 33

My posts didn't publish yesterday. So double posts today. Annoying, right?!? It's okay though, things happen. I'm learning to be okay with things not always going my way. It's a tough pill to swallow at times.  Last night we had rice with vermicelli. It was pretty good but when I looked at the label I noticed it had wheat in it. I have been gluten free for years now. I made up my mind that if I don't feel well that it will be okay, and I'll get through it instead of dwelling on it. I took some Benadryl last night before bed and am feeling okay today. So I am thankful for Benadryl. That's right! Scientist have come up with a way to reduce histamine in a body through a tiny pink pill. GO SCIENCE!!

Day 31 & 32

Day 31 I'm grateful for lazy days. I didn't get out of bed until 11:30 and then spent the day watching TikTok videos with Jerry. We laughed a lot! Day 32 I had to get up and go today. Jerry's car wasn't holding a charge. So just like my car, we took it in for some TLC and a new battery. I'm grateful that we are able to financially afford to keep our cars running well.

Day 30

Today I'm attending a workshop to help improve interpreting. I've learned that constant learning is an important part of honing a craft. So today I'm grateful that I belong to an organization (NAIE) that constant gives opportunities to continue my education.  Go knowledge!!

Day 28

I'm not doing okay today. I'm quite emotional, irritable, and  just want to escape. I want to drown my emotions/sorrows in junk food but don't want the reprecussions. I might make a Chaffle later... So what am I thankful/grateful for today? That is the question... After sitting for a few minutes pondering, I am thankful to have the will to stop and think before I react. Doesn't me I always do that. I can be irrational at times. But me not eating everything in the house right after lunch shows me that I'm slowly changing what food means to me.

Day 27

I'm feeling a little out of sorts this morning. Jerry is at the office today so I'm home alone which you know a year ago wouldn't bother me but now it's like weird. Anyway, it's going to be one of those surfacy type grateful days because I just can't deal with much. So today I'm grateful for peanut butter. That's right. I said peanut butter. It's easy. It's somewhat nutritious. If you don't eat the whole jar which in yours pass I would have done but now I'm trying to get ahold of mindful eating so now I know it's a staple. That's good in the right proportions so I'm going to go eat my bagel with peanut butter and ponder my day at home alone.

Day 26

I love my job. I especially love it when I get to interpret for a fun subject or a great presenter. It just makes everything about my interpretation flow so today I'm grateful for awesome teachers that I get to interpret for at my school.

Day 24 & 25

Day 24 I took a nap and woke up to delicious smells. Jerry's had cooked dinner. I'm grateful to have a partner who likes to cook. Day 25 I'm lazy, I won't lie about that. I'd rather veg out on the couch than do anything. It seems a weird to be thankful for "veg out time" but I am. It's time I can turn off my brain and relax.

Day 23

This morning Jerry was going to get his haircut, and we thought his car was fine because he started it yesterday, but the battery was dead. Thankfully we have two cars, and my car just came back from the shop to get all fixed up because it was going dead because when you don't drive your car because of the pandemic, it needs some TLC. So I'm thankful we had two cars today.

Day 22

Friday...finally.  Today I'm grateful for upcoming weekends.  They hold such potential.  Yes, I usually don't end up doing much because of the pandemic. The weather will be clear but cool on Saturday, so maybe some porch time during the sunny hours. Fresh air is always good.  Sunday looks a little wet, but that's good for watching some TV or gaming.

Day 21

Some days it's harder for me to pick what grateful for...There are so many things. The purpose of this excercise is to focus myself.  So...today I'm grateful for my work. I'm interpreter in an educational setting for deaf and hard of hearing students. I love what I do. It's neat to see the minds develop over the years. I love American Sign Language (ASL) and respect the deaf and hard of hearing community. This career was a late in life choices and I'm thankful that I was able to follow that nagging calling to become an interpreter.

Day 20

I'm grateful to be a United States of America citizen today!  The Inauguration was amazing. Congratulations President Biden and Vice President Harris!!!!

Day 19

Tonight I watched as President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris were are the Lincoln memorial to remember the 400,000 lives lost to the Coronavirus. I voted as the nurse sang "Amazing Grace" just as she does for her patients. I am in awe of the flags that represent the 200,000 people who would attend tomorrow's Inauguration of we weren't in the middle of a pandemic. The glow of the lights in the reflection pool are a somber reminder of just how much we have lost. Diy what do I have to be grateful for? The hope of healing, the hope of positivity, and the hope for a smooth transition to a new administration tomorrow.

Day 18

Feeling anxious for the inauguration on the 20th. In my heart I know it will all be okay...I tend to worry. I have been breaking out in hives all weekend. So as silly as this sounds, I'm grateful for benedryl and it's "my skin is on fire" soothing abilities.

Day 16

I'm grateful to be able to sleep in on the weekends. While I might wake up at my not al time, I often head right back to bed and snooze a little longer.

Day 14 & 15

Day 14: I really hate when I skip a day. I see it as a failure but I understand. Perfection is an illusion so I'm just going to carry on. So what am I grateful for day 14? Long sleeve pajamas. I often get pulled and it's usually my arm is in hands so long sleeve night shirts, pajamas PJs, whatever... are great for me. Day 15: Today I'm grateful for peanut butter. Quick, easy, and super yummy. During those times when I really can't decide what I want to eat I will have toast with peanut butter. I'll eat it with crackers, bread, apples, celery...there isn't much I won't try with it.  It's my go to staple food.

Day 13

Most Wednesday nights, Jerry and I head to the kitchen together and cook a spaghetti meal. It's not by scratch or anything fancy, just hanging out in the kitchen cracking the same jokes as the week before. So today, I am grateful for Spaghetti Wednesdays. 🍝

Day 12

I really haven't gone anywhere since March. That means my car has been sitting quite a bit. The first time I'm guessing was in a late April and the battery was dead. No worries. Just jumped it and it was fine. We then started starting a car at least once a week to make sure that the battery would charge. And then once a week wasn't enough. I ended up having to start my car everyday otherwise it would be dead. So this morning we woke up before work and took my car to the shop. I'm going to get the whole shebang done battery oil change, yada yada yada.... So today I'm grateful that we have the means to keep our cars in good condition. I think I'm going to start taking Sunday drives or something to keep the car running. Also it gets me out of the house.

Day 11

It's been a difficult week with the increase of COVID cases in our country as well as the seditious act on the 6th that took place at the Capitol in DC. So today I'm most grateful for a like minded husband who tolerates my rants many political questions, and sudden sob sessions. I feel very fortunate that I have someone to talk to about all of this. Sure...I tweet but I feel like that's an empty void at times. I think 80% of my followers are probably bots. 😂

Day 10

Gluten Free Pancakes!! That's right I'm grateful for pancakes. Having to go gluten free because of my Hashimoto's can be frustrating at times. Those darn commercials for stuff crust pizzas make me sad. A local restaurant has a great gluten free friendly menu and on that menu are ✨ gluten free pancakes! 🥞  They are delicious and I have no clue if they taste close to regular pancakes but I think they are delicious. ...and that's what is important.

Day 9

Today I'm grateful for our local farms delivery. Every week we receive a bag full of veggies, 2 dozen eggs, and once a month a box full of meat products. We have been enjoying the fresh foods and love that it's a sourced from local are farms.

Day 8

I'm grateful that I can work from home. I am not feeling well today so working from home was a huge plus. I didn't have to take a day off, I could manage what's going on and still attend all the classes to interpret for the student.

Day 6 & 7

Wow yesterday was crazy. I would never think there would be an attempted coup.  The actions of the few MAGA supporters tried to disrupt a procedural ceremony that wasn't going to change the outcome of the election.  So for yesterday, I am grateful for the women and men of the Senate and House of Representatives for finishing thier task last night in the week hours.  Day 7 - I'm thankful for coffee. Lots and lots coffee to combat me staying up to watch what I learned was a very elegant ceremony of counting the electoral votes.

Day 5

As I wake up this morning, I head back to work. Winter break is officially over. I'm grateful that I can work from home during this time and am feeling very fortunate.

Day 2

I feel grateful that I have a job that allows me to stay safe and work from home during COVID-19. Not everyone is as lucky and while I feel some guilt about that I'm trying to not that consume me.

I quit....

Since last week, I quit tracking my foods. I quit counting calories. I quit obsessing over things, and I have felt better.  I'm trying to be mindful of what goes into my body and remember that it needs fuel. But not crappy fuel, because just like a machine with improper fuel, it may work but not reliably. I want my body to become reliable.  My thyroid panel came back, and it's on its way to where it needs to be, but that is only part of the equation for me. I also need to keep my kidney in check and my A1c, which is also coming down. I know food intake is a key factor, and that's why I'm turning towards mindful eating. So what does that mean to me? Thinking about what's going in my body. How is that going to affect my systems? Savoring the flavors of each bite. Putting my fork down between bites. Not rushing through a meal. Listening to my body tell me when it's hungry vs. thirsty. (HUGE learning curve for me.)  Yes, I know it is the holidays, but with just Je...

I'm not okay...

I'm saying it. I own it. I'm not doing okay right now.  I have gained so much weight despite my truest efforts. (80+ days of journaling what I eat.) Yes, my thyroid is out of whack, but I have never felt so lost with this. I feel like every bite of food I take is another mail on my coffin. I know that isn't healthy. I know I need to eat to live. I know all of this, but I'm tired of being fat. Beyond fat, morbidly obese.... I stopped journaling what I eat. It isn't helping, and I can't obsess about that, it isn't healthy either.  Because I'm so large, moving around has become a chore. I want to cry every time I think about going out because it means moving and gasping for air. After all, every step is a workout. I am trying to move more. I know I need to get up between classes. Working from home has made it easy to just sit there...but that isn't healthy. Do you see a pattern?? Nothing is healthy...nothing...

Argh!...

Sorry for showing empathy to a person who I didn't know, out there trying to make a living during this pandemic. That poor person waited over an hour on a restaurant that forgot to turn on their tablet for their delivery orders. She probably could have done two runs waiting on our order and excuse me for feeling bad for her.  Fuck that.....

Six times....

I have been out of my house six times since March 16th.  Coincidently, that's my birthday. This COVID19 is really changing how I see the world.  You can see a lot of people pulling together to get PPEs to our essential workers.  Speaking of which, they need a pay raise.  A big one. Restaurants, grocery store employees, delivery people, distribution personnel, of course, our first responders and health care providers.  I could talk for hours about how many people need to be paid more. Personally, I am lucky that our school district has decided to do distance learning via Microsoft Teams.  It's been interesting but three weeks in and the students are asking for video conferences and are becoming more efficient in their navigating skills.  This is good, as it's preparing them for real-world application use.  Both Jerry and I are working from home.  We have had a few bumps in the "office" but have a schedule and follow it pretty much every day....

Another six months...

Whew!  My chest x-ray where unremarkable.  My kidney levels are stable. The doctor talked about possibly doing some genetic testing, but at this point, it isn't required.  Apparently, new research has shown clusters of genetic mutations for different kinds of cancer.  My parent's cancer and mine don't seem to be in a cluster group, but the research is still new, so, at this point in time, no testing is recommended. In six months, we will do another chest x-ray and a sonogram on my right kidney to make sure there isn't anything "going on" there. I'm glad I moved my appointment before spring break, so I can just relax next week.

Constant fear....

Today I went to get my chest x-ray to see if my kidney cancer metastasized and traveled to my lungs. Whee? No. I have been pretty glum about this all weekend. Crying. Yelling, “I’m afraid” and just generally mopey. I know, rationally, I should be fine. But cancer if fucking scary. It looms like a monster under the bed, ready to grab your ankle as you wake up. Ok...maybe not that scary, but it does loom. Today’s appointment was just annoying. President’s Day is one of those Mondays that I’m off from school. I tried to get a different time, but I was too lazy to call earlier. Maybe it was because I didn’t really want to have my x-ray. So...appointment set from 8:20am. I get there around 8:05, so I can do all the check-in paperwork, etc. 8:20 comes and goes... 8:40 comes and goes... Finally, at 8:58, I asked how much longer, and they checked with the tech and told me a few minutes longer. Another 15 minutes and finally they take me back.  The room is freezing. Tha...

Yep...another year...

I love Christmas lights.  Twinkly little points of light make me happy.  I was excited to plug in the outside lights this year.  Until they didn't work.  My heart sank.  We have rechargeable, and I thought it was charging, but it wasn't.  I tried charging them again, but to no avail, the lights didn't come one.  Jerry finally got involved and finagled the charging battery, and after a night of charging, I had my twinkle lights on the porch.  Yay, it was Christmasy!  I didn't put up Christmas decorations in the house until the 20th of the month.  I thought about it doing it earlier but just felt "meh" about it, so I put it off.  The day I decided to put up some lights across our mantle was sad.  My lighted garland was dead.  I wiggled each light, couldn't see if any were burned out to change so that the twinkly strand of lights would work again.  Jerry came up that evening to "emotional Jeanne" and tried his best ...

Autumn brain dump...

I'm feeling much better.  Just a cold now, but that is going to be all the time at school.  It seems this year the kids don't know how to "vampire cough" or that they should rub the snot onto their hands and then touch things.  This is why I don't share pencils or pens with students.  I secretly don't like giving them to other adults either.  I wouldn't say I'm a germ-a-phobic, but you can never be too careful. Jerry and I went and saw Jekyll & Hyde  at the Alhambra Dinner Theatre.  I love that we have season tickets.  Later this month, our FSCJ season starts.  We will see Wicked the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  I'm excited. Speaking of holidays.  We didn't hand out candy this year for Halloween.  I think maybe next year we will.  We'll see...  We have been invited to Jerry's sister's house for Thanksgiving.  We are going to take some gluten-free dressing. YUM! Christmas is still too far off.  I di...

A month...

This past month was not fun. Mid-September I had an ear infection that caused laryngitis and temporary hearing loss in my right ear.  I went to my primary care doctor and got a round of antibiotics. Nothing cleared up, so I ended up back at an ENT's office, and they confirmed the ear infection and hearing loss (moderate to severe) with a hearing test.  Yet another antibiotic, stronger... About five days into that round of medicine, I developed what I call "the three hours of hell."  The first hour was uncontrollable shivering, followed by high fevers (topped off at 103.5 at it's worst), finally ending in an hour of heat intolerance.  Finally, I went back to my PCP and got a flu test (NEG), and she put me on Tamiflu.  Great...more pills.  Another five days until the fevers broke, and I started feeling better. Poor Jerry took care of me during all of this.  I wasn't eating much as there were days I couldn't keep anything down.  I lost 16 pound...

Pardon me...

A week ago, I lost (temporarily?) my hearing in my right ear due to an ear infection.  I have been to the doctor and today was the last day of a round of antibiotics.  I did feel some pressure release today in my ear, but I still can't hear.  This makes being an interpreter difficult.  Last week was a struggle to hear the teachers as students continued to talk while the teacher was talking.  Or tap their pencils repeatedly on the desk during class.  Even the AC unit seemed to have it out for me this week.  I came home every night, my brain exhausted with trying to hear and figure out what was being said all day long. I really thought I was doing better until today when we went to the grocery store, and the clerk kept asking me questions about how I wanted my groceries bagged.  At one point I said that I had a bad cold and really couldn't hear very well, hoping she would take the hint and stop talking to me.  Nope.  The barrage of que...

Mom...

Happy birthday, Mom.  I miss you terribly.  She is always with me.  Little things remind me of her.  Last night there at our dinner theatre we were at a "meet and greet" with some of the cast, and fellow season ticket holders and there is a woman who is older than us that I started to talk with.  She is a piano teacher, 57 years.  She wears these cute matchy skirts, shirts, vests that remind me of mom's fashion sense.  She and her husband attend the symphony, they come to the dinner theatre.  *sigh*  I bet mom and dad would love coming to the Alhambra with us. In the teacher's lounge, co-workers talk about their parents, and I get a little envious.  I laugh at their stories, nod as they talk about the crazy things their mothers do and wish for my mom's witty, dry comments to keep me in check.  One more call, one more hug, one more piano duet...I would still want more.

Thoughts and prayers...

Thoughts on getting more people involved in the voting process. Thoughts on educating people on how to look for facts among the political rhetoric. Thoughts on spreading more love, less hate. Prayers that people vote out hate and vote in hope. Prayers that people are open-minded. Prayers that love conquers hate.

Happy birthday, Dad...

My parents both passed away in 2010.  Today is my dad's birthday, he would have been 90.  If I close my eyes, I can hear mom singing her "You're much older than I" song that she would taunt him with.  He was 15 days older than her. I had a full-on break-down last week.  I sat and sobbed because I missed both my parents immensely.  You'd think after nine years I would have a grip on grief, but it comes in waves.  You never move on, it's always there.  You live with it. My niece posted a  video  about moving forward with grief recently.  I had seen this video before she posted it, but it was exactly what I needed. Most days, I'm good.  Then there are those days when you want to be comforted by the people who have shown you love no matter what.  That infused you being with their humor, quirks, and sense of being.
